How To Combat A Lonely Motherhood
By: Jennifer Hale
Shortly after having children, some parents are faced with the realization that they are lonely. Often they are home alone with their new family addition and their spouse is working extra hours to supplement income or to help with the cost of an expanding family. More often than not, these are stay at home mothers. Sometimes the new mother has paused or delayed her career entirely and feels cut off from family, friends and work collegues. Unfortunately it is a sad but true fact that others find their single friends tend to disappear due to a lack of commonality. Whatever the reason for the feelings, there are surefire ways to combat a lonely motherhood.
Take advantage of programs offered by local libraries, community centers and churches. Many of the same parents attend these events on a regualar basis, and after a few meetings with the same parents, it will become much easier to strike up conversation.
Visit your local community park or indoor play centers on a regular basis. Children make friends easily which can help spark conversation and even friendship between parents.
Get involved with the numerous online groups created for mothers. Make sure to find one in your area since many of these groups meet for regular play dates or a moms night out.
